I am a freshwater ecologist, interested in microscopic things, and what they do in rivers and lakes. I also love flyfishing and rarely miss an opportunity to get my feet (in waders) in the water.

This is me as an undergrad, using one of my many homemade stream samplers. You don’t have to be brilliant to be a scientist, but it really helps to be innovative and resourceful!
It helps my scientific endeavors that I’m an artist - I use both sides of my brain! I collect vintage primers and children’s science books, salt-&-pepper shakers, and postcards. I’d rather be outdoors than anywhere else, and I don’t trust anyone with clean fingernails!
